Well, complete-ish. She still needs clothes.
Anyhoo, before I get there, I just had to share this pic, taken on the walk to pre-school, along a pretty, residential road.
So Number 2 is in the buggy, saying 'Mooooooo', and I'm like 'Moo? No, darlin' there's no cows here.' And then I see what she is pointing at...
Yes, a cow. A full-sized model cow. In a front garden. As you do.
Back to the doll. But just to keep you hanging on a bit longer, thought I'd show you how I made her wig..

This is my thrifted mohair. I crocheted a wig cap.
This made a little furry swimming hat!
Next, I made a chain. And wound lengths of yarn.
Next, I pinned the chain down and threaded the yarn onto each side of the chain. This creates a centre parting (I want my doll to have little bunches)
Now for stitching it along the middle of her head. And a view from the back..
... and now for my Ta-daaaaaaaaaaa!
This is the moment in doll-making when Beth says that the doll tells you their name ...
And it's true.
Mine is called Chloe.

When I first started crocheting I tried a doll but I wasn't great at shaping and Mr G said she looked like a c**k in a frock!!

That's really great. She looks really cute. By the way there is a house where I have seen a full sized plastic giraffe in their back garden. Where would you buy something like that?

They do look great in a big garden though!

ReplyDeleteAs for clothing, you might try the outfits that I have for my basic amigurumi doll. She is on the left sidebar down a bit from the top. This doll is 9 1/2 inches tall, about the same size as Chloe. The clothes are very simple, and made of worsted and sportweight yarn. Think easy and quick :-)

Well, hello Miss Chloe! How nice to meet you! As her creator, I understand that she names herself. You breathe life into her...and she does indeed speak to you! I have made quite a few stuffed animals, snowmen, etc. Each time I give them eyes, noses, mouths I get quite nervous as all of their personality is dependent upon those features...all my crochet work can be ruined by an error in placement...or made cuter by an angle or size or color, etc. We breathe life into our creations...indeed! I adore Chloe! You're enticing me to have a go at creating a doll. And her hair! OH MY GOD! It's fabulous! And perfect for Chloe! Can't wait to see how you dress her! x&o, Annette
ReplyDeleteP.S. That cow is crazy funny! I love that your little one saw it and pointed it out! To each his own when it comes to yard decor, eh? I've seen statues of geese and rabbits in yards here in the U.S., but never seen a cow! Interesting idea!
