The one with the knitting needles and the bracelets
So it's just as well he didn't see me boiling my knitting needles at lunchtime today.
Yep, you read it right. Boiling my needles.
See? Here's the proof.
No, I'm not THAT hungry. I just fancied trying something crafty.
I'd found the green and red plastic needles in a charity shop (10p per pair, I kid you not) and knew just what to do with them.
And for once, it didn't involve yarn.
Here's what I made:
Bracelets!
If you'd like to follow suit and confound your family and friends with your culinary madness, then here's what to do:
1. Find some plastic knitting needles (raid your stash for lonely ones, or keep your eyes peeled in the charity shops for cheapo ones).
2. Boil them for 20 mins or so -they need to be really soft for them to take shape. My first attempt didn't work as they weren't pliable enough.
Do be aware of nasty fumes which can be released- ventilate your kitchen and you'll be fine.
3. Remove them carefully from the water. Within a couple of seconds they'll be cool enough to handle.
4. Bend them quickly into shape and use something to hold them in position. (See my imaginative use of the elastic bands the postman insists on dropping along the street)
5. Allow to cool completely.
If you're not happy with your bracelet, then just pop the needle back in the boiling water to soften and start again.
Now adorn your wrists with your awesome creations and wait for the comments to come flooding in...
NB: not all plastic needles will bend. The grey one refused to comply and has been returned, sulking to my stash.

Instagrannies' Day Out
Well I have to say, the writing's going well so far and I must admit, I'm really rather enjoying the whole process.
This is the meeting place (Barnett Hill, near Guildford).
Isn't it lovely?
It's a beautiful house, built in 1905 by the grandson of Thomas Cook, the Travel Agent. It was later given to the Red Cross and used as a convalescence hospital during the war years and then as a training facility. Now, it's a conference centre.
But as we know, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, so it was with great excitement I went off to our second Instagrannies' day out (the first seems so long ago...)

Anyhoos, the super-gorgeous ShabbyChicSarah is the brains of the outfit and decided to invite the gals of Instagram to a little meet-up. And so, for a very reasonable fee, we travel from far and wide and get together.

Tea is sipped.
Homemade cakes and biscuits are nibbled at.

We sit, chat and bring our projects to work on and there is sewing and crochet and knitting and embroidery and lots and lots of laughter.
(And we also eat a great big lunch. Four courses, no less).
And before we know it, our time has come to an end and we mourn how quickly our day has passed.
But new friends have been made and ideas have been shared. Tips and tricks have been wondered at and stories have been told.
And there is the promise of another get-together in the summer....
...I will be there. With bells on.

Quick n easy crafty project
This is a project I have wanted to make for ages, but has been sitting in hiatus in the garage. I had originally seen this image on Pinterest and was inspired...
.... begin with a picture/ mirror you don't like anymore (or never liked) but a frame which you do like:
Picture bought from car boot for £2. (I cannot repeat what I said to the Mr on hearing that he'd bought this- I think it's terrible, but liked the frame)
Anyhoo, remove backing, picture, glass etc,
Paint/ spray frame if you fancy something different,
Use staple gun to attach wire or twine or whatever you fancy across the back of the frame.
(or you could use cute eye hooks screwed into the front of the frame if you want to make a feature of it)
I attached mine horizontally, but you could make a criss-cross or vertical pattern too.
Ta daaaaaaaaaaa!
Use mini pegs to attach photos/ memos etc.
For now, I've got some vintage postcards of the local seafront, but want to add some great photos of the kids at the beach too.
Easy peasy lemon squeezey:))
